Tour Description

  • With over 100 brightly coloured buildings, golden spires and glittering mosaics, dating back to 1782, the temple is popularly located adjoining the Grand Palace.
  • The major attraction is the Emerald Buddha. According to popular belief, the Emerald Buddha is ancient and came from Sri Lanka. Art historians, however, generally believe that it was crafted in 14th-century Thailand.
  • The Emerald Buddha sits a top a huge gold altar in the centre of the temple. It is a rather small, dark statue, just over 2 feet tall, made of jadeite. Despite its national importance.
  • Wat Phra Kaew is the only temple in Thailand that doesn’t have any resident monks, and so is not a seat of Buddhist learning in the same way as the likes of Wat Pho and Wat Mahathat.
  • Early morning is the best time to visit if you don’t want to be canoed in the crowd. Also, the temple forms part of the Royal Thai Palace, therefore, the architecture is colourful and worth visiting.
  • The place is incredibly beautiful and special. A must-visit attraction, don’t miss this enchanting piece of Thailand. Also it shuts early at 15:30 hours.
